Nietzsches Zukünfte

Global Conference on the Futures of Nietzsche

7-11 October 2024 in Weimar

The philosopher, poet and composer Friedrich Nietzsche is one of the most influential scholars of our time. Within just a few years after his mental breakdown, this largely unknown writer became a philosophical phenom of global significance – and has remained so to this day. In view of his broadly enthusiastic – and occasionally unfavourable – reception in the 20th and 21st century, he is a uniquely international and interdisciplinary phenomenon. Nietzsche was one of the first and most innovative analysts of the modern era. In light of the serious crises afflicting our now globally interconnected modern culture, taking a transcultural look at this extraordinary philosopher could offer us promising systematic insights. The aim of this conference is to literally bring Nietzsche researchers from all around the world in contact and jointly investigate the future of Nietzsche.

For this undertaking, we have invited experts from Asia, North and South America, Africa, Europe and Oceania to share their view on two key issues. First, we are interested in what Nietzsche’s historical and current significance is in their respective country. Secondly, we would like to learn more about the futures of Nietzsche philosophy and Nietzsche research from a methodical, thematic and/or social perspective.
